Sikkim Scribe Tour Canceled – The Sangai Express

IMPHAL, May 9: MAHUD Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday reported a team of journalists touring Sikkim from the Manipur Press Club.
A total of 19 female journalists, Wangkhemcha Shamjai, Chairperson of the Manipur Workers Union of Journalists (AMWJU), Vice President Athokpam Jiten, General Secretary Khwairakpam Naoba and members of the union’s Standing Committee are participating in the tour program.
Addressing reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony, Y Khemchand said the tour will help journalists gain knowledge about journalism and the environment of Sikkim. Besides, it is also part of empowering women, he added.
He said AMWJU’s initiative to organize such a tour is a good step towards exploring the potential of female journalists in the state.
AMWJU President W Shamjai said that compared to other North East Indian states, Manipur has more female journalists and the tour was organized with the aim of empowering female state reporters .
He said that upon reaching Sikkim, the team will interact with journalists from Sikkim. He added that the team will also report on various development projects, education and agriculture systems, etc. taken over by the government of Sikkim.
Indian Journalists Union (IJU) President Geetartha Pathak will join the tour, he added.
