SRINAGAR, AUG 11: Tourism Secretary Sarmad Hafeez has inaugurated the 12th chapter of the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) in Jammu and Kashmir here.
Speaking at the launch, Sarmad Hafeez reiterated that tourism in Jammu and Kashmir has performed extremely well over the past two years with several new initiatives taken to boost the tourism sector in the Union Territory .
He said the J&K government recently launched a new stay-at-home policy in which the department aims to increase bed capacity by 25,000 beds at various resorts and locations across UT.
He added that Jammu and Kashmir is known for its hospitality worldwide and urged TAFI to help spread a positive message to the outside world and introduce Kashmir to the outside world in a proper context.
He also congratulated the J&K chapter and its new team and hoped the relationship would open up new horizons to promote tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. A famous tour operator, Manzoor Pakhtoon was, on the occasion, unanimously elected as the first President of the 12th chapter of TAFI for the Jammu and Kashmir chapter.
In his address, TAFI President, Ajay Prakash called the opening of the 12th chapter of TAFI at J&K a historic day and added that with the launch of a new chapter, a vibrant, active and contributing chapter has seen the day.
He said Jammu and Kashmir has had a phenomenal tourism season this year which can be long term rather than short term by focusing on sustainability and promotion to the outside world.
On this occasion, he congratulated and welcomed the new chapter of J&K to the TAFI team. Manzoor Pakhtoon, the newly elected President of J&K Chapter of TAFI, said in his address that it was a proud moment for travel and tourism stakeholders and said that all tourism stakeholders must stand united and united to promote J&K tourism.
He hopes that on trade-related issues, TAFI will be at the forefront to play its part in every possible way. On occasion, a presentation was also played in which different tourist destinations and places were presented to TAFI members.
The launch ceremony was organized jointly by the Direction du Tourisme and the TAFI. The National General Secretary, TAFI, Abbas Moin, the presidents of the other 11 TAFI chapters, the newly elected members of the TAFI J&K chapter, the heads of the tourism department, the heads of the tour operators and others were present on the occasion.
Today, the TAFI national delegation made a familiarization tour of Doodpathri and other tourist destinations before leaving.
The delegation appreciated the decision of the Department of Tourism to add new tourist destinations to the list of attractions to provide tourists with a wide choice and experience of staying in Jammu and Kashmir.
