Help pass the Competition Law and the Preservation of Journalism

The next two weeks are crucial to get the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act (JCPA) — a bipartisan bill that would allow news publishers to collectively bargain with Facebook and Google for fair compensation for the use of their content — at the finish line. The bill will be tagged in the House during the last two weeks of July, and we ask that you help us with a BIG lobby for the support of as many members of Congress as possible.

What can you do to help

1. Contact your members of Congress. let them know how important the JCPA is to local news and your organization, and ask them to support this legislation before tagging.

The News Media Alliance just released an update JCPA National Fact Sheetin addition to State-Specific JCPA Fact Sheets to use when talking to your members of Congress about the need to pass the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act (JCPA).

2. Tell your readers. In order to have a big impact, the News Media Alliance has created print and digital advertisements for news editors to run encouraging readers to support local journalism by asking their members of Congress to co-sponsor the JCPA.
