PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan summoned the chief executive of the Peshawar Development Authority on Tuesday to clarify its position on media reports and social media videos showing the use of civic agency mechanisms to redress the flags of Pakistan’s ruling Tehreek-i-Insaf at power poles and making other arrangements for former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s public meeting in the capital.

The ECP District Supervisory Officer for NA-31 Peshawar Constituency, Shahabuddin, has issued a notice to the PDA Chief requesting him to appear before him at 11am on Wednesday for this purpose.

He warned that the DG’s failure to comply with the orders could result in ex parte prosecution against him under the relevant provisions of the law and the case would be referred to the ECP, Islamabad, for further action.

The relevant paragraph of the code of conduct states: “The executive authorities of the federation and the provinces and the elected representatives of a local government shall not use the resources of the State in any constituency where elections are held to unduly benefit a candidate or a particular political party. party or exercise undue influence affecting the interest of any candidate or party to contest an election”.

Meanwhile, the chief executive of the PDA on Tuesday suspended two firefighters and a gardener over the matter and ordered an investigation against them.

An order from the office was issued on Tuesday stating that firefighters Abdul Qayyum and Kachkul Khan and gardener Owais Ali Shah had been suspended for viral videos of a violation of the ECP’s code of conduct.

The DG has appointed PDA (New Peshawar Valley) Project Director Adil Ayub as an investigator for the alleged misconduct of these officials.

He said that following the publication of the indictment and statement of allegations against three staff members and giving them an opportunity to be heard, the investigator should provide his findings and recommendations in a fifteen day period.

In addition, NA-22 District Election Commissioner Mardan Falak Naz issued a notice to Katlang tehsil Council Chairman Hamadullah for addressing Pakistan Democratic Movement workers at different locations as part of the campaign. election of a Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl candidate. .

He asked the chairman of the council to appear before him in person or through a lawyer on September 8 and clarify his position.
