Buhari hails former Sun newspaper chief executive at 70


The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retired), on Sunday congratulated journalist and editor Mike Awoyinfa as he turns 70.

According to a statement signed by his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, the president hailed Awoyinfa’s 40-year career in public information, education and entertainment.

The statement was titled “President Buhari hails Mike Awoyinfa at 70”.

According to Adesina, the President notes with pleasure the more than four decades Awoyinfa has devoted to journalism, informing, educating and entertaining the public with the best of prose and literary prowess, plying his trade with the News Agency of Nigeria. , Concord Press, The Sun Newspapers and the publication of Entertainment Express, among others.

“He also salutes the journalist’s foray into book writing and encourages many other journalists to follow the same path, ‘since books live practically forever and reading makes a full man.’

“President Buhari congratulates the Awoyinfa family, the media profession as a whole, and in particular the Nigerian Union of Journalists, the Nigerian Publishers Guild and the Newspaper Owners Association of Nigeria, on the historic occasion.”

He therefore wished Awoyinfa a longer life in good health, “and greater contributions to a profession he loves so much”.
